Why choose Yikes?
I’m a member of NAPO national (the National Association of Professional Organizers) and am vice president of our local NAPO chapter. This past February I took (and passed!) a strenuous exam to become a Certified Professional Organizer®, one of only 370 in the world at the time this is written. I take my job very seriously and want to do an awesome job for you.
After doing this for almost four years, I have seen patterns where people get “stuck” and know they need to make changes but don’t know where to start. I know how this feels because there are areas in my own life where I just needed to get professional help and was glad I did. I promise to make this process (scary as it might seem right now) as painless as possible!
Isn’t YIKES a strange name for a company?
Yes, I suppose it is but I really love it. I was looking through a home decorating magazine one day, saw that title in an ad and knew I was on to something. We all have areas of our life that we let get away from us and everyone’s idea of being “organized” is different. I know a woman who vacuums her carpets every day and I know someone who vacuums once a month. It’s the same with organizing. To me, YIKES conveys the idea that you are ready for change but yet keeps it lighthearted. (By the way, I’m not saying the woman who vacuums once a month is me and I’m not saying she’s not!)
I want to get my house/life/garage/closet in order, but I don’t know where to start. How can you help me?
Organizing isn’t just about throwing things away. I will help you by assessing the situation, developing a plan for change and then implementing that plan. I will work alongside you to provide support, guidance and accountability. If needed, I will shop for you or suggest products that will enhance your space and/or provide better storage. You will be amazed how little changes can add up to make a big difference.
How long will it take?
That depends. Some projects can be completed in a day and others are ongoing. My schedule is flexible and I can meet with you as often as needed to get the project completed. It’s a good idea though on larger projects to schedule a regular meeting time as this helps you commit to the process.
I see you have package deals which interest me but I’m not sure how long organizing my home will take. Which package should I choose?
I don’t make anyone commit to a package until we have worked together once. If you decide at the end of our first session that we aren’t a great fit and you don’t want to continue, you can just pay for that session. If you like what you see and the progress we have made, at that point we can discuss which package is right for you. This benefits us both because I like to work with someone once before I give them a timeframe as some people are much quicker at decision making than others. Also, remember that our first time together (the 30 minute “meet and greet”) is free.
